Taking the age of the property into consideration, the walls were thinner than desired.

Beautiful location. Easy to park and we really enjoyed the history of the property with a mix of modern touches. Wonderful warm welcome by the hosts. Very homely. Fun eclectic decor.

We thought the breakfast was overpriced, basically a continental breakfast with roll and fillings or bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon, the latter was, however, very good. No full Scottish or similar on offer.

We had hoped there would be a restaurant as listed in the description but as the owners have only recently taken over it wasn’t yet up and running.

We stayed for overnight on way from NorthCoast 500 trip had a very good night beds were very comfortable, room was quiet, great location, staff were very helpful and welcoming. We had the breakfast which was a treat and great value for money and served in a lovely room.

The lobby - Room (breakfast room) has much potential, but at the moment is a little sad. We didn't feel "at home". Be careful with the rebuilding - clients keep their first impression. Lots of potential. Go ahead.

Probably one of the comfiest beds ever! Stunning window view, abslute cleanliness, very welcoming and Friendly. The most outstanding thing about the place is how well it's maintained its authenticity. Very scottish 😍. Cozy breakfast place and bar with amazing view. Just lovely.

Beautiful place and location. Scott and Andrew where very welcoming and friendly, they made you feel like you where part of the family. Would highly recommend The Retreat Hotel. We will definitely be coming back to stay.

The tasty breakfast, the generous hospitality,and the beautiful grounds exceeded all of our expectations. Scott went above and beyond to make me and my daughter feel comfortable. The hotel is quite quaint and one-of-a-kind. Scott tells me this hotel is a labor of love, restoring it to its previous charm and elegance. Well done, Scott. Your passion for detail and excellence was pervasive throughout our stay. My only regret is that I wish we were staying longer.

Small room. Tiny toilet. No tv anywhere. No lift .No bar.No meals. Badly furnished lounge. Bed not made up. Lace curtain in the room toilet, with workmen outside. Shower did not work. No chair in the bedroom. At £90 per night a complete rip off.

The property was beautiful, both internally and within its setting and was well maintained and clean. We had a great stay here and the owners were incredibly kind and attentive. Despite only having stayed one night we would have loved more time to relax and enjoy the region! Thanks so much :)

Hotel had only recently been re-opened but needed thorough refurbishment. The listing was a bit misleading as were some of the 'reviews' left by the owners themselves on Google. There's no lounge area other than the breakfast tables. Everything has been done on a very tight budget which really shows. The shower over bath in the room was very poor. We do wish the owners well with it but wouldn't stay again.

Everything! Newly opened, run by lovely people and felt very personal. Nice room, breakfast was super and all in all a perfect stay. Highly recommend this place in a very pretty and fairy tale town.

Room tiny and only one bedside table, shower not functioning properly, even though host explained how it worked.

Friendly and helpful host. It had character , charm of an old building, very clean, lots towels, good bed.
