Hótel Vellir is a 3-star property situated on the outskirts of the capital city and only 36 km from the airport. This was a lovely hotel and the perfect place to start our 2 wk visit to Iceland. The hotel was easy to find with free parking right in front of the hotel. As we had just flown from the USA and had a bit of jet lag we were happy the hotel was able to offer early check in for a small fee. That was perfect! So after a nap we were ready to start exploring! the hotel itself is very clean, well maintained with a nice little bar, free use of the gym next door, a lovely breakfast room and a sports bar connected towards the back of the hotel. The food in the hotel and bar were great. The rooms were comfortable and had everything you need and of course as we found all over Iceland, the people were so kind and friendly.

This Viking-themed hotel is located at the harbour in the seaside town of Hafnarfjordur. Humpback whales can sometimes be spotted in the harbour during winter. we stayed in a cabin. Each cabin had a name - ours was Thor! We had a great dinner at the restaurant and the included breakfast was generous and really good.
