Located on the outskirts of Thurles town, Anner Hotel and its leisure center is a pleasant base with friendly staff, fine food and plenty of comforts.

This is not a heavily touristed area, so the hotel was not up to the standards of one of the more patronised destinations. On the other hand, it was more authentic than many of the big chain hotels. The main restaurant only opens two nights a week, which is not out of line with quieter areas of the country. The bar restaurant was quite adequate, however, and the food and wine pleasant. Rooms clean and well serviced. Excellent en suite shower facilities, recently upgraded. Quite a pleasant place.

If you like Downton Abbey you’ll love this place! Refurbished farmhouse from 1741 with expansion from the 1800s. This place is beautiful, cozy, and historic. The breakfast was insane. I felt like I was in a movie. The hosts were beyond kind and helpful. If you want to feel like a Duchess in the countryside, this is your place.

The owners were extremely hospitable and went out of their way to make sure my brother and I were comfortable. I would recommend Hawthorne to anybody looking for a comfy B&B on their way to the south or west of Ireland

Host was very responsive and friendly, and I appreciated very much the late night snack left for me. Had everything I needed be be comfortable. Perhaps a chair could be added. The area looked nice, quiet but there was a local pub which seemed to have character a few hundred yards away, which would have been interesting to visit if I had time.
