Spectacular, an adventure! This accommodation does not meet the usual evaluation criteria. The property is 18 km behind Shatili. Getting there is a bit of an adventure because you first have to overcome the 2700 m high Bear Pass. From Shatili you continue on what is now a disastrously bad road and it takes almost an hour to get to your destination, passing the magical abandoned Mutso. The last few kilometers were tough, and my not very powerful car, of course an all-wheel drive 4x4, almost didn't make it up the mountain. You will never get there with a normal car. But once you've made it, all your efforts are rewarded: a farm where livestock is farmed all year round, on the border with Chechnya far away from civilisation, with a few attached, very comfortable guest rooms with lots of wood and glass. The view of the surrounding mountains is breathtaking. I was woken up in the morning by the sun with a view of three very high mountains: on the left the Makhismagali, 3890 m, in the middle the Tebulos, 4492 m and on the right the Komito, 4261 m. The room was relatively small and sparsely furnished , without heating, and the night was extremely cold, which is why I put the blankets from the neighboring bed on top of me. So I was reasonably warm and survived. I was the only guest that night. Dinner and breakfast were exceptionally good, of course almost everything with local products. Unfortunately, I couldn't eat much because the journey had upset my stomach. Since I had eaten so little, the landlady didn't want to accept the full price for accommodation and food. Communication with the farming family worked somewhat well, on the one hand via WhatsApp with a relative living in Tbilisi, and on the other hand with a young woman who spoke English and worked for the family there in the summer. Amazingly good Wi-Fi, but no phone, at the end of the world.

Gudani is a cute little village and the guest house a true gem. Misho und Teo are very pleasant and great hosts. After walking in from Juta via Roshka, we got their kind support with arranging transport to Shatili. The food was excellent! :)

To reach shatili you'll need a 4x4, it's as remote as you can get what with the road being so treacherous. The locals are a funny bunch, women are considered impure and are therefore not allowed everywhere in the village, where exactly is not defined. The nature here is pure but on the cusp of being irrevocably lost due to the construction of the new road and coming hoards of tourists.
