Offering garden views, Škerlj Wine Estate is an accommodation located in Tomaj, 17 km from Trieste Train Station and 18 km from Piazza Unità d'Italia. A real gem. We received a wonderful welcome from Mirjana, who greeted us with a glass of her fine Teran and we felt instantly at home. Skerlj is a historic wine estate which goes back six generations to 1788; our room was cosy and full of character with beautiful old furniture. Delicious breakfasts with homemade eggs, local jams and honeys etc. Mirjana gave us some excellent recommendations for dinner both nights. A lovely place to wind down and enjoy the atmosphere with the friendly cats and elderly dog. Thoroughly recommended, we can’t wait to return!

Boasting garden views, Prenočišča Iris offers accommodation with balcony, around 20 km from The Škocjan Caves. There is a private entrance at the apartment for the convenience of those who stay. What a splendid location, what a perfect maintained surroundings and garden with gorgeous views down the valley to the village and the Karst plateau. Host was friendly, relaxed with caring attitude.

ČEBRON FAMILY ESTATE is situated in Branik and has a pool with a view and mountain views. Boasting a shared kitchen, this property also provides guests with an outdoor fireplace. Absolutely perfect, the family are so helpful. We were travelling on bikes, they gave us perfect recommendations for the next day. Helped us with dinner, breakfast was delicious. The room was new, and the wine delicious. We managed to fit a bottle on our bike which we enjoyed a couple of days later. Yes, we will be back, is a great place for a base for biking.

Featuring mountain views, Hiša posebne Sorte features accommodation with patio, around 29 km from Trieste Train Station. Luca was such a delight. He made us feel so relaxed and made everything facile. The food and wines were unforgettable.

Boasting accommodation with a terrace, Apartma Furlan is situated in Štanjel. The property is around 26 km from Piazza Unità d'Italia, 26 km from Trieste Port and 27 km from San Giusto Castle. The apartment was clean and quiet. We slept so well. I used WhatsApp to communicate with the host and they were welcoming and kind. The free parking and ability to view the beautiful city from the terrace and then walk up in 10min was perfect!

This really is a boutique hotel and is located in the quiet village of Lokev, but close to Trieste and to the Škocjan Caves, which was our primary destination. Lokev is small and quiet, but close to Divača where there is a train station and other services. The owners, Dajana and Boris, are two of the most delightful hosts we have ever met. And the chef prepares gourmet dinners that are a true highlight. The facility was well designed and spotless. The beds were really great and the bath was superb.

It was very good. Typical Slovenian breakfast. There was also a restaurant there in the evening so if you didn't want to go out you could eat there.
