A Unique Slice of Texas
Austin is a city like no other in Texas. A haven for the cool and creative, musicians and music fans flock by the hundreds to this ‘Live Music Capital of the World’ for yearly festivals like Austin City Limits and South by Southwest.
Historic downtown Austin is the seat of Texas government, and the seat of fun and entertainment for locals and visitors. Congress Avenue is the main artery through the city centre, leading you to the impressive Texas State Capitol building at the end. Just off Congress is 6th Street, the popular entertainment district with its quirky bars and fine restaurants.
Away from the hustle and bustle is tranquil Zilker Park, a 350 acre oasis in the heart of the city. Here you can wander through the Zilker Botanical Gardens, or take a dip in the inviting Barton Springs Pool, a natural spring where locals swim year round. A walk around Town Lake at sunset is a must.
Austin is also home to the University of Texas, where about 50,000 students are enrolled each year which ensures a fun and youthful atmosphere throughout the city.
It is possible to get around Austin by bicycle and bus, and Austin International Airport is only 13 kilometres from the city centre. From motels to resorts, Booking.com offers accommodation as unique as the city itself.

A lot of people had told us to visit other cities over Austin - but being from Melbourne we absolutely loved it. A beautiful clean city, offering fantastic restaurants and beautiful parks. Visited Austin to see family members. Picked the Extended Stay near Lakeline mall on the 183 service road, as it was convenient to the area they live in. The Lobby area was not clean, floors were dirty, the parking area needed to have the trash picked up. The outside entrance was very dirty and did not seem to be very safe. The floors of the elevator matched the lobby floors as they were equally as dirty. As we entered the floor for our room the lack of housekeeping continued. When we got to our room it also needed to have the carpets cleaned. In summary the pictures online must have been taken when the hotel first opened as they were not a good example of what it actually is. We are Austinites and decided to stay at the Fair Mont for a Mother’s Day getaway. I’ve stayed there before however she hadn’t. She had an incredible time and that in itself meant the world to me. Our room was amazing as well as the view from it. The restaurants and all of the staff were amazing too from the time that we arrived and throughout our entire stay. Everyone went above and beyond by making our staycation unforgettable. We highly recommend the Fairmont and we will definitely be back soon.

Austin is a great city. Be aware if you are on a business trip and use Booking.com or another 3rd party vendor, Cambria Hotel Downton Austin will not provide a proper invoice for guest to get reimbursed by their business.

Austin is a vibrant city with an eclectic mixture of old and new. It has a vibrancy that only comes from a city on the move! You can still get plenty of authentic Texas bbq and tex mex fare as well as other good restaurants. Public transport is excellent and easy and inexpensive to use.JamesAustralia

The only thing I will say is rooms are a bit small - vanity specifically. And there's no complimentary coffee, but a great coffee bar on site. Pool area was gorgeous and the food was fantastic. The Tommie was accommodating with late check out and holding our bags for the day. Location cant be beat if you want something more central- i.e. not that far from Congress, East Austin, Downtown, etc. Would recommend!

The Driskill is in the liveliest nightclub area of town so I am not sure how quiet it would have been on a weekend. This hotel is in a great location for seeing everything in downtown Austin. I ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant which serves a delicious brunch every day until 2 pm.
