Do mot even think about staying in Aguas Calientes, here there is so much character and history with the most beautiful architecture to explore and streers to get lost in. We had the time of our life there! This place and its people have a special kind of energy & beatify, unlike anywhere else!

We made Ollantaytambo our home base for our Sacred Valley visit and were glad we did. It was small enough to walk everywhere, the train station, the square, the archaeological park, the original pre-colonial section of town. We messed up our communication and did not get tickets to Machu Picchu. Do your research and purchase tickets BEFORE you arrive…months in advance for high season. Nevertheless we toured the archeological wonders of the Sacred Valley— Temples of the sun and moon and more. It was very spiritually powerful and architecturally awe inspiring, did not feel like a consolation prize for missing MP…. Just a reason to come back. Do not miss this tour if you are hire… and hire the guide. It’s worth it. Food was great here too.EllieLithuania - 10Scored 10

We loved this town. In total we stayed 3 nights. And would've preferred to stay another night instead of returning to Cusco. The restaurants are plenty and good, the people are so nice, and the coffee shops are nice. Hiking all around, and the ruins and market are enjoyable. Both walking everywhere is good and getting a taxi is also easy.

Host Marcela helped me every step of the way, drawing maps to the city, recommending restaurants and attractions, arranging taxis and making every guest feel welcome. This is not the Hilton - those modern tower hotels do not exist in this most authentic town (thank God) - it was simple and very clean with a great breakfast included and a decent Internet connection. I hope to return someday.

If you decide to start your MP journey in Ollantaytambo, we highly recommend - and the breakfast starts at 6 am, which is very convenient for those with an early start!
