The room on the 8th floor was a great size, clean, modern and comfortable. Enjoyed the smart bathroom and facilities. Chocolate hour was fun and delicious as was the buffet breakfast. We were accommodated well when we could not get the desired time for our dinner reservation, by luxurious room service. Bought my daughter for a girls weekend and she thought it was exceptional, especially the pool and sauna. Great location and the staff were outstanding

FAQs about hotels in Wellington

Wild and Wonderful Welly

Acclaimed for its thriving art, film and cultural scene, windy ‘Welly’ is enclosed by mountains such as Kaukau and Victoria on one side and the picturesque Wellington Harbour on the other. Wellington has the distinction of being the world’s southernmost capital city.

As the gateway to New Zealand’s magical south island, Queens Wharf is headquarters for ferry services across Cook Strait as well as in the direction of Eastbourne on the other side of the harbour.

Get your bearings by using the Kelburn cable car that starts at Lambton Quay and travels up to the Botanic Gardens and Carter Observatory with its sweeping views across the Miramar Peninsula and local bays.

Don’t miss a visit to New Zealand’s national museum, Te Papa, which also incorporates the National Art Gallery. Cuba Street offers a multicultural touch and includes the Wellington Night Market with an array of international cuisines. Ascot Street is a lively shopping precinct.

Wellington Airport has flights to other domestic destinations as well as Australia and Fiji. Booking.com can help you choose your hotel to round off a fantastic city trip vacation.

Zealandia and the Botanic gardens were great for an outdoor experience. Indoors, the tour of the Beehive and Parliamentary buildings was excellent, as was the Te Papa Museum. Some good restaurants around, but can take a while to find.

We experienced perfect weather from Thursday to Sunday in mid-May. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon, and we had a brief demonstration of horizontal rain (I can now say I experienced it :D). The rest of the time, we had a bright blue sky and crisp temperatures—perfect! The city is lovely and very walkable. We went to the tourist information centre, and the person who helped us was lovely. The cable car is maybe a bit underwhelming (you only need to do it once to say that you have done it), but the botanic garden and its surroundings are worth the trip. As a Melbournian, I wanted to see if Wellington's coffee is as good as Melbourne's. He listed some of the top coffee places and explained the difference between the types of coffee served at each location. The locals are so friendly and helpful. People often stopped and helped us when we were staring out our phones to orient ourselves. As vegans, finding good food and a few excellent, fully plant-based restaurants was very easy.

We stayed at the Apollo which was an easy walk into town.

We stayed at the Apollo which was an easy walk into town. Buses to areas out of the city seemed pretty regular. Wellington is a pretty switched on city, with a creative energy and plenty of things to enjoy. Cuba St which is pedestrians only has plenty of cafes and restaurants and the food is top notch. Our favourites for dinner were Loretta’s, Olive, Mr Go’s. Icecream and Creaming sodas at Duck Island, coffees at Pickle and Pie, Cheese Scones beautiful pastries and coffee at Myrtle’s. Some good clothing shops, also recycling shops where there was really good clothing for sale at low prices, good bookstores. A must visit is Te Papa Museum - Level 4 Māori and Pacific Island history is impressive. The museum’s shop is also worth checking out. The lobby of QT Hotel (there’s a golden hippo on the hotel’s exterior) - you don’t need to be a guest to wander in to view the lobby area which includes a magnificent private art collection and a ritzy bar. Plenty of bars with music and Sunday Farmers Market on the waterfront was bustling with plenty of fruit and vegetables along with brunch food and coffee available.

We also ate at the hotel restaurant and had a spectacular meal. The staff was extremely attentive and helped with recommendations. The bathroom in our room was very clean and the water pressure was great, It was our honeymoon and the team even had a surprise desert plate waiting for us in our room and gave us a free upgrade! Tasty tea and cookies within the room. Staff were very helpful with text message and direct phone call available. Parking map and detailed parking instructions were provided. Central location in Wellington CBD, has supermarket and pharmacy downstairs. The cable car is also right next to the hotel.

Really central location- Te Papa museum was only a 5 minute walk, with the same sort of distance to eateries/bars on Cuba St & Courtney Place. Comfortable large bed. Sky Movies included on TV. Good choice for breakfast, including continental and cooked. Probably only 15 spaces in the hotel car park, but loads more in the public car park just across the back driveway (back entrance for unloading is 25 Bond St, Wellington for satnav).

This was a great hotel for a short business trip to the city. I was able to walk everywhere. It was clean, and I especially liked the kitchenette in the room; that was a pleasant surprised. I also liked how all toiletries, including laundry detergent, was provided by the hotel. Check in and check out was a breeze. I also appreciated the turn-down service with nightly teas. I booked this at the last minute, as I wanted a hotel in the centre of the city. It was perfectly located and the staff were very diligent and helpful. The terrace room I booked was tired and certainly in need of renovation, but the bed was comfy and I slept well, despite it overlooking the road and the exit from the motorway.
